  • Our purpose is to take the meeting suggestions determined by our membership during our
    November meeting and distill them into 8 coherent programs (we don’t have programs in
    July, August, November and December);
  • Our meetings must incorporate OWL’s basic goals of improving older women’s lives in
    terms of Health, Economic Security, and Quality of Life;
  • Our meetings must appeal both to our current members and new ones we want to attract.

WHERE CAN I TURN WHEN I CAN NO LONGER COPE?

Our program speakers will discuss the current status of mental health delivery systems and what to do in case of emergencies; the effects of budget cuts and what should be available for more ideal coverage, the use/misuse of prescription and other drugs by seniors, the effect of the Baby Boomer cohort on the mental health system.

Medicare with Steve Allison, and Protecting Social Security with Peter d'Anna

On June 19th, 2010, the Sacramento Older Women's League (OWL) and the Gray Panthers held a joint meeting of special interest to persons approaching age 65. Steve Allison of the Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program (HICAP) explained Medicare step-by-step and what this insurance coverage means under Healthcare Reform.

Peter d'Anna from the National Committee to Protect Social Security discussed the current Social SDecurity situation.
